Beauty treatments

Skin needling and microdermabrasion are both relatively recent trends in skin beauty treatments. Although they are not recommended for severe skin conditions, their effectiveness may be beneficial for minor or superficial problems.

What are microdermabrasion beauty treatments?

Microdermabrasion is a cost-effective and simple rehabilitation treatment that can be done on the skin in a short time with minimal recovery. Microdermabrasion is different from dermabrasion beauty treatments. Dermabrasion is an invasive procedure used for years to treat skin scarring and UV damage.

A traditional skin resurfacing procedure, Dermabrasion is usually done under general anaesthetic. The procedure uses a special “sanding” device that removes the deep layers of skin. This can leave an open wound that could take up to several weeks to heal. This process results in new skin formation and improved skin quality. However, there are significant risks of complications like hypopigmentation (whitening the skin) or scarring. Dermabrasion isn’t done much anymore, because lasers can do the same job but more carefully and precisely.Microdermabrasion, in contrast, is non-invasive and low risk. To “polish” the skin, it uses a high-pressure stream of fine crystals. It is very effective at removing the superficial layers of dead skin cells but doesn’t damage the deeper layers. It is painless, and there are very few side effects like mild reddening. Is it safe for all skincare products types?

Microdermabrasion is a popular cosmetic procedure, but most doctors believe it has little clinical value. Microdermabrasion is often marketed for unsuitable indications, such as scarring and deep wrinkles. To see any clinical improvement, these contour changes need to be stimulated in deeper layers of the skin or damaged enough to cause sufficient rejuvenation. They won’t improve with mild, superficial mechanical beauty treatments such as microdermabrasion.

There is evidence that microdermabrasion can increase collagen production, which is the protein that gives skin its strength and elasticity. This can be used to “fill in” minor contour changes, such as mild scarring and fine wrinkles. This can improve the absorption and effectiveness of active skin care ingredients like vitamin A and antioxidant creams, by removing the outer layer of the skin. It is most effective in minor improvements in textural irregularities or pigment changes caused by sun damage.

What is microneedling of Beauty treatments?

Microneedling, a cosmetic procedure that is relatively new and popular, can be used to treat various skin conditions like scarring and wrinkles. It is much cheaper than other rejuvenating beauty treatments like resurfacing lasers and has been shown to be quite effective in promoting collagen.

An automated pen or roller device with microneedles up to 0.1mm in size is used for the procedure. The device creates micro-punctures in the skin, causing minimal damage to the epidermal layer and microscopic injury below. A “wound healing” cascade occurs in the skin after minor bleeding and injury. The skin’s collagen and elastic fibers are stimulated by minor bleeding and the injury. It can take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete a microneedling procedure depending on how large the area is. Pre-treatment with suitable skin care products, such as retinoid creams and antioxidants including vitamins C, is recommended to ensure that the really skin heals quickly. Patients may also experience some redness and minor discomfort. Some patients may experience mild swelling and reddening for a few days. However, complications are rare. There have been reports of skin infections, reactivation or cold sores of herpes simplex, inflamed pigmentation, and aggravation to other skin diseases. Although raised scarring is not common, it has been reported. It is very unlikely that you will get a skin infection because the superficial needle holes close quickly (in about 15 minutes).

Is it possible?

Microneedling has been shown to improve the appearance of scars and wrinkles. This is due to the production of collagen and elastic fibers that helps the skin “fill out.” Inflicting tiny wounds to the dermal layer (deeper) causes an inflammation cascade that triggers proliferation of cells inn shown to increase collagen and elastin thickness in skin biopsies. This improvement usually occurs within three to four week. You can see further changes for several months.

While there is usually a noticeable improvement, it can be subtle and slow. Combining treatments like microneedling with platelet-rich plasma or chemical peels can improve the efficacy and result. These components are found in blood and enhance healing. Most people needed multiple beauty trends treatments over a prolonged period of time to see good results in most cases.

The more complicated a procedure, the less beauty treatments are required to achieve the desired outcome. However, this can also mean longer healing times. It can be difficult to choose the right treatment option. This depends on the severity and nature of the problem, coexisting conditions, skin type, desired outcome, budget, lifestyle, and other factors.

Although some clinicians might recommend a procedure because of their experience and availability, it is important to consider the cost and feasibility of the treatment before you commit to any type or form.
